Trends in Emergency Department Visits Involving Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome Identified Using a New Diagnosis Code – United States, January 2023-May 2026.

After a CHS-specific ICD-10-CM diagnosis code was introduced on October 1, 2025, CHS-coded ED visits increased sharply (about 3.7 times the preimplementation monthly average) and remained elevated through May 2026. Higher proportions were observed among persons aged 15–24 years and females; authors note the rise may reflect improved recognition and coding as well as possible true increases in cases.

Outbreak of Salmonella enterica Serovar Reading Linked to Dried Bovine Meat, New South Wales, Australia, 2023.

A Salmonella Reading outbreak in New South Wales was traced to a restaurant and to dried bovine meat products sold in South Asian grocery stores; the pathogen was isolated from food items and linked to an unlicensed meat processor. The investigation combined clinical isolates, food testing, and supply-chain traceback to identify the source.

Patterns and Correlates of Disposable E-Cigarette Use Among U.S. Youth.

Analysis of the 2023 National Youth Tobacco Survey found that youth who predominantly use disposable e-cigarettes have high rates of nicotine-containing product use (81.9%), prefer fruit flavors, and report greater daily social media exposure and severe psychological distress compared with nonusers. Concurrent use of cigarettes and e-cigarettes was associated with the strongest indicators of nicotine dependence and social exposure.

Examining Spontaneous Cognitive and Emotional Reactions to Messages About Very Low Nicotine Cigarettes (VLNCs).

Content analysis of open-ended reactions to messages about reducing nicotine in cigarettes found that pro-arguing and message acceptance were common and associated with greater support for nicotine-reduction policy and, among people who smoke, higher quit intentions. Negative emotions and message acceptance were also linked to subsequent behavior such as talking about quitting or making a quit attempt.
